Important Update: Mandatory Identity Verification for Company Directors

How to Verify Your Identity
The main way to verify is online using the GOV.UK One Login system. This process typically requires:

A chipped passport (or other valid photo ID like a UK driving licence)

A smartphone with the GOV.UK ID Check app installed

The ability to scan your ID and take a photo of your face
Companies House is introducing a new, mandatory identity verification requirement for all company directors and Persons with Significant control (PSCs). This is a key part of the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, aimed at tackling economic crime and improving the accuracy of the company register.
What You Need to Do
All directors and PSCs will need to verify their identity directly with Companies House to continue acting in their role. This is a one-off process that links you, as an individual, to your director role(s).
The deadline for all existing directors to be verified is tied to your company's next confirmation statement filed after 18th November 2025.
